Footlight opens 78th season with Neil Simon's "Rumors"

Directed by Michael Hamburg

"I laughed so hard my throat hurts!"

Thats what one audience member on opening night told us, not to mention the many others that said they LOVED our season opener "Rumors" by Neil Simon.

Neil Simon is known for comedies, but "Rumors" is his first farce. “This is completely different for me,” he once said. “There are so many more obligations. It’s relentless in its needs for plot twists, and to keep the comedy going.” The play is about four couples who have been invited to celebrate the tenth wedding anniversary of their best friends Charley and Myra Brock. The host’s attempted suicide (or is it?), the missing hostess, a damaged car, Cookie’s recurring back spasms, and rumors galore add to the comedic mayhem of one of Neil Simon’s funniest plays. When the first couple arrives and discovers the disaster, they decide to cover-up for their well-connected friends. As the next three couples arrive, the rumors grow into a dizzying array of laughter. Only the arrival of the police could make it any worse, and when they do arrive, the couples improvise a hilarious illusion of normalcy. The end result is the wackiest anniversary party you'll ever be invited to!! "Rumors" contains adult language and may not be considered suitable for children or young teens.

Playing August 28, 29; September 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12 at 8:00pm

Drama "Match" Will Move You

We are opening the drama "Match" by Stephen Belber in just 2 weeks. With only 3 characters, this show will blow you away. The play may not be popular but it is definitely worth seeing. Robert Ivey has done an incredible job directing this show and has selected a magnificent cast.
